CCC Called in to Prevent Mudslides

A few weeks ago, while the California budget was under negotiation, state workers were put on un-paid holiday. Despite this, a California Conservation Corps (CCC) crew was called back into the line of duty to help prevent a mudslide from overtaking a local neighborhood. In a story that highlighted just how necessary the CCC is for California, Corpsmembers and staff discussed the benefits of the program -- and the potential for Corps-brought to scale-nationwide.

By the way, we don't come from troubled backgrounds! Most of us simply join because we can't find other employment.Not to mention the CCC is a step in the door to the Forest Service, Caltrans, and many other state and federal agencies. We are decent young people looking for hard work. :)

I'm Rebecca and I work at the Redding CCC and I love it. My first spike is tomorrow, we're going up Mt. Lassen to rebuild a rock wall that has fallen down with age. I love my crew, my supervisor, the work. We're like a family. :D Go Crew 29! We still have one of those CCV's too. lol Hopefully we're getting new ones this year... Great program all around, I just wish the pay was better. :P

i remember doing that interview. as usual, the media took what i said out of context. i worked my butt off at that mudslide, mainly because i had just received my redhat that week and i wasn't gonna let some rookie bluehat show me up. even when i finally got my orange hat i still worked harder than i did when i was a blue and red hat. that's how a real crewleader does it!

One of the best jobs I ever had too I worked san bernardino center 07-08 great memories hard work and I miss the awesome emergency pay checks lol I miss galvan too he was the best man!! Peace!!
