Last track from the CD "No Mermaid" (Grapevine and Fontana Interscope, 1998) by Irish singer Sinéad Lohan. I first heard this song in Cambridge, MA, on the Harvard FM station while traveling. Poetic lyrics. Memorable song. I couldn't find it on YouTube. The lyrics are:

DIVING TO BE DEEPER
Sinéad Lohan

her majesty was so fine / he almost thought that she was real / but she's divine / he thought she was caught up in a web / but she's the tangle / and as she went flying through the air / he caught on by her ankle

her attitude is all right / she's mainly on the up / but she tends to lie / he thought she was swimming against the tide / but she's the tangle / and as she went butterflying down / she led on to strangle

and he went diving diving down / diving down diving down / just to be deeper / and he only took her money / 'cause he thought that he / could never really keep her

this century will fall down / we always thought it was a queen / but it's just a crown / we thought she was caught up in a web / but she's the tangle / as she went flying through the air / he fell off at an angle

the legacy was burning bright / she's living in a dream / but she's all right / he thought she was dying of a scream / but she's the screamer / and when she passed him on the end / she smiled and he believed her

and he went diving diving down / diving down diving down / just to be deeper / and he only took her money / 'cause he thought that he / could never really keep her

her majesty was so fine / he almost thought that she was real / but she's divine / he thought she was caught up in a web / but she's the tangle / and as she went flying through the air / he caught on by her ankle

her attitude was all right / she's mainly on the up / but she tends to lie / he thought she was swimming against the tide / but she's the tangle / and as she went butterflying down / she led him on to strangle

and he went diving diving down / diving down diving down / just to be deeper / and he only took her money / 'cause he thought that he / could never really keep her

  • when you were in cambridge did you drink and eat at the WurstHouse??

  • @codeguy431 Can't remember. Ate at some bar near Harvard...stayed in a big hotel near MIT...heard this song a lot on FM radio...

  • sounds nice, reminiscent of the mid 1990's girls solo acts like Kate Bush, Rachael Sage and Emilie Autumn

  • @lunarmation Yes...a '90s sound, but contemporary too. Love both the rhythm and lyrics...

  • This song deserved to be WAY more popular.

  • @cjp371 Yep. It was hot on college stations at the time, tho.
