Referring to the charisma of the Order founded by St. Joseph Calasanz, Father Pedro Aguado, the new Father General of the Piarists said that their charisma believes in the future and recalled that Jesus way of life is both fascinating and leads to happiness. We work with young people because we believe they can live in a different way. We work with children because we believe that if we help them grow up to be honest people and convinced Christians, they can help change society. The main responsibility of those who live religious life and spread the Gospel, is to do everything well, that we may be credible witnesses, that we may live what we preach. Then we will be able to convey to the young people that Jesus offer changes us, that it is an exciting and attractive offer that is full of life, not of difficulties or of sacrifices. The goal of the Christian way of life is to be profoundly happy.Elected as the new Father General of the Piarist Order during their 46th Chapter back in July, Father Aguado closely links their mission and education. To strengthen what we are, searching for greater fidelity and a greater capacity [to fulfil] our mission can and must bring us to structural changes of our own organization, which will always be an instrument for the goal that we have chosen, which is to renew who we are in terms of the Gospel and in terms of our mission.Founded in the 17th century by St. Joseph Calasanz, this Order, also known as the Order of Poor Clerks Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools, has almost 1,500 religious in 34 different countries and currently shares its mission with lay people as well.
