UK's HMRC full of incompetent idiots (30July11)

A House of Commons committee finds that the Revenue and Customs department is stuffed full of incompetent, illiterate, and innumerate idiots who can't deal with people's tax details.

What they forgot to say is this mess started with Labour's Gordon Brown decision to merge two separate departments responsible for different things, into one big super-department, and so the mess began.

They have taken on another 1,000 staff. Oh my God! These people are very badly educated. Years ago, they would not have got into the civil service because they would have failed the entrance exam. Some of these people can hardly write their own names. A friend of mine told me that he was told by one of his muppets that when he received his tax code, he was to check if it were correct, then contact them and tell them what the tax code should be...

@liarpoliticians that attitude definitely doesn't help, but using the excuse of not going after middle income earners (a vote loser ) means, not having the resources to go after high incomes earners, multi nationals and billionaires et al. which are a source of Political Party funding.
