San Francisco loves biking — more and more people are getting around the city by bike, and that's a good thing for everyone. We need to meet that growing demand with better bikeways, safe, comfortable, continuous bikeways, fit for anyone from an 8-year-old kid to her 80-year-old neighbor. That's Connecting the City! @30atelevision: Let's get real and drop the bias. There are stupid bicyclists and there are stupid motorists. And in reality, most adults bike commute own a car/have owned a car, therefore have paid taxes that went toward creating and maintaining roads. So, yeah, they do in fact own the road as much as motorists. What there needs to be to increase safety is more accountability for both parties.

Would be great if bike(rs) then rode sensibly and not think they owned the road. Is definately a plus for the injury attorneys. Now, whos going to pay for it? Oh right.... car owners...... gas taxes pay for the roads right...... ? Nope. Ordinary tax payers..... thats who. Fund it with advertisements painted on the pathway and you got me as a supporter

I'm definitely not excited about this center lane idea on Valencia... nor anywhere else. I've never seen this work.. it seems to create more of a mess... its used by emergency vehicles, turning vehicles and makes it harder for cyclists to turn off the path, ultimately crossing more lanes of traffic during commute. #fail

On valencia bicycles would benefit from a green wave on traffic lights, and buses would have remote controlled traffic lights to allow for fast transit.
Guerrero would then be dedicated to cars, with intelligent green wave traffic lights, to allow for efficient commuting. It would alleviate smaller residential streets from traffic, and reduce congestion, so reduce pollution.
Come on SFBC you can do more than this narrow-minded (member-pressure) vision.

The vision of SFBC seems great, but sometimes too narrow, and small. The city needs entire streets dedicated to bicycles and buses, not just 2 lanes in the middle of a car-ridden streets... That won't give me any comfort, and I still won't go around with my son. Valencia, should be turned into a car-free street. Bicycle and buses would be running along the entire street. For residents with garage they would have a special pass to park their car there.

... week in their cars, but they don't have the choice. If you have a family to take to school, run grocery shopping for your household, take your grandmother to the hospital, commute to walnut creek or cupertino, in most cases you will need a car, your own, or city car share's. And it's utopian to believe in getting rid of all cars in the next 5 years, maybe in the next 50 years, yes, but not right away. So there must be a transition that accommodate all transportation means.

I like the fact that this is coming in 2010, 30-40 years after the vision that European cities have had for themselves. Also, this is strangely missing the background in which is coming to fruition. I think having a vision for transportation in SF would be very narrow minded, without creating a full plan, including bicycles, buses, muni, and cars. I don't think that many people love cars, I don't think people like commuting accross the city, I don't think people want to spend hours every...
