The 2010 Olympics provided us all with a number of unique experiences. Yet no matter where we were and how unique each of our experiences were, there was a common celebration that captured us all. Be it from the huge gathering of crowds, the astounding outpouring of patriotism or the jubilation that happened everywhere, the Olympics in Vancouver had a magnetic effect that rippled throughout the city. A shared belief that this was a special moment for the city and its people. Moments, that we too, were able to capture with our eyes, and cameras, experience on the streets and on the internet and save both in our memories and our hard drives.

We began our thought process and interactions through technologies that utilized real-time visuals and audio (Skype, JustinTV and ooVoo) that gave the feeling that we were there with each other. Suitable with our Olympic discussions, we experienced technical difficulties, but pushed forward with humour and were able to share and show our stories.

Our project involves this digital experience with the Olympic games, our interaction with technology by way of digital camera, the internet, video conferencing, and wall projections. This emphasizes our dependence on the numerous technologies of the 21st century in order to deliver a message. Viewers will see a large wall projection on a building in the Robson street area; this was one of the central Olympic venues during the games. The wall projection will show 3 simultaneous webcasts of each of us.

During this webcast, we recreate our 2 1/2 week experience with a mashup of our individual narratives of the games, pictures, and videos directly from the screens of our digital cameras onto our webcams. This represents how we each experienced the Olympics from different angles and parallels the fact that we can represent them through different lenses, not only in perspective but in form; the camera, the web cam, and the wall projector, showing a duplicity of experiences brought out in both human and digital form.

By showing pictures/video directly from the camera to the webcam and expressing real, personal moments through it as well, it shows our own expectations of technology to quickly and effectively enhance our lives, and share our stories. Sampling from our digital culture, it reduces our need to imagine or question and increases our ability to instantly understand each others stories. Yet the technologies we have access to have further allowed us to creatively express these stories in a way we wouldn't have been able to do 20 years ago.

During the games, there was a trend of large wall projections throughout the downtown core. Now that the games are gone, what was once an Olympic wall projection is now a memory. However, our memories are infinitely relivable through what we were able to capture, and will project on those walls that were once adorned with Olympic moments.
