A tribute the military jeep using archival footage, cartoons and pics of my old jeep. To the theme from "The Rat Patrol".

A quick note. There have been many comments refering to the jeep name etc. According to the books "All American Wonder" 1 & 2 the name has many suspected origins but none are definitive. Everything from teh cartoon character Eugene the Geep to the GP in the Ford name as well as labels on early promo photos have been credited. The Ford GPW theory is unlikely as the name came about before the GPW was contracted. .

GPW does NOT stand for General Purpose Willys. It is the Ford car which was designated GPW, with the "W" referring to the "Willys" licensed design. MB was the identifier for the Willys model B (The original was the MA which had a tapered hood).

The name Jeep was legally adopted after the WW2 and used in the post was civilian model the CJ-2 (Civilian Jeep 2) which was known to the Army as the M-38.

I do not speak German, this is a translator so I apologize for the bad syntax.

  • my best friend had a 1944 ford jeep and my neighbor had a 1942 Willys Jeep. The only way you could tell them apart was a stamp or markings in the frame.

I even had the army repair manual for the Jeep, it was a reprint and we often used it. Parts were the same for each one...

  • yo te digo y soy de venezuela que a amo a los jeep

  • Nice

  • the new jeep is a luxury car. The old Jeep is friggin BADASS

  • these new things we call jeeps aint nothin compared to these

  • At the beginning of this old film is definitely the American Austin's Bantam BRC 40 and 60 in its early testing as well as the old pick at 0:15 . Willys MB and Ford GP (Government Pygmy) based on this Bantam's reconnaissance car. Read the Bantam story - the net is full of information.. and there seems to be even more disinformation including Utube as it concerns the Bantam which is "the mother of jeeps."

  • @pudgeya1 lol imaginary airbag!

  • @patwwe nooooo!!!!
