Ok, I have heard this can be used in a brooder. I'm confused about the heat output. I hear this is very hot & needs a thermo or dimmer, but it's 10-20watts p-ft. So if you take a ft of it & touch it w/ a thermometer, what temp r u getting? I need to build a brooder ab 8ft long x 3ft wide x 2ft dp. I would like to use this on the removable plywood panels at both ends. During the winter we get to apx 30 at night, chicks r in unheated room. Can I get it to 90 degrees inside?

your voice sounds just like the guy on all the adam sandler movies....
This can work well for a brooder as long as you have a brooder that is completely contained. Meaning that that wattage you use will adequately heat up the entire space where the heat tape is. The heat lamp is effective for a small area because it focuses the power to that small area. Heat tape dissipates heat over a larger area, but much less wattage in a small space.
If your 8' x 3' x 2' space completely contained?
