One interesting irony: if names were not retired, that would have been Hurricane Isabel - and not Ida - that would have spun it off. Talk about potential confusion between Isabel-03 and Isabel-09 in the same area...a good reason for retiring storm names that are destructive.

During Ike, I don't recall any lightning. We saw glowing blue flashes the entire time... this was due to explosions in parts of the power lines. I've always assumed that the high winds change how the storm works... it's just a different type of storm. But, that's just a guess.

cool thanks, but i also ahve another question, how come (well the videos i see) i dont see and thunder/lightning in hurricanes, i also notice that in some tornado films that sometimes they dont have it either

what that white stuff? like if there bubbles why are they taking forever to disappear, if not.....ew

Sea foam. Lots and lots of sea foam. The ocean gets stirred up and foamy. Not sure the exact cause, will have to look in to that.
