saw 'em a few weeks ago & man they rocked! I'm a big fan of their old & newer stuff & I think Silver LIning might be my fav... I don't think losing Grant hurt 'em at all...

I agree with Nd179: Michael Bland is the best drummer they have ever had. I just saw them July 3rd at the Surf Ballroom with Michael on drums & Tommy Stinson on bass. They were awesome! They even played a little longer because the opening band did not show up. Great show.

PS: Making a big brew-ha-ha-ha over dumping Grant is ludicrious. Dave, Dan and Karl were always the heart of the band. (Mike is a much more talented drummer than they have ever had.) And now that Karl is gone, they are still an awesomely tight band. Karl picked his successor, Tim. They were high school buddies. Trust me. I saw this band last summer. It was the greatest show I've ever seen!

People hop on bandwagons. Including Clinton. This is one of the most under-rated bands of the last twenty five years. The album befofore Grave Dancer's Union was just as good. And they've gotten better with every album. (Dave's solo album was one of the best in years!) But, people want their bands to be as trendy as they think they are. Not talented.

I agree. Current drummer Michael Bland is the best drummer I've ever seen. Worked with Prince, Dixie Chicks, Westerberg, and about 40 mpls bands. very flexible. Prince had a rule about "his" musicians playing in other bands and Bland was the only man to tell Prince and keep his gig.

I agree that they still rock. It was more a musical change after he left. The fact is before Grave they were the kings of underground rock in the midwest. While you were out , Horse, Hang Time, Made were my favorite albums and still are. Going to see them March 5 in Orlando

The whole thing with Grant leaving is overblown. Really how many songs did he write? That's what I figured. he was good but I highly doubt the last time Soul Asylum rocked was way back in 1993-1994. That's just crazy talk. I mean just look at their footage from Lima, Peru just a few weeks ago and tell me that doesn't rock.
I don't agree! i like their old music just as much as i like their new! They still rock XD

I hear that. But I think the musical change had much more to do with the guys getting older. Horse is my favorite album but the transition from that to each album that followed in the 90's seems pretty natural to me. I imagine they'd have gone that route with or without Grant. That's why I think people make a bigger deal out of Grant leaving than it really was.
