  • Compare this Gomer to Gomer in the Andy Griffith Show episode "Back to Nature." Not the same person! Sorry, Hollywood. Character goof!

  • @MrAzrancher Couldn't agree with you more. Gomer always seemed like a gay Marine, but after the series went to color, even Sgt. Carter seemed fairy-like. I don't mean to disparage Jim Neighbors, for I have nothing but the greatest respect for him. He was so damn talented. I used to exchange emails w/him about 10+ yrs. ago. He told me that he's happiest when driving his tractor on his farm in Maui. Frank Sutton was simply phenomenal. His character became monumental, as was Jim's.

    Great point!

  • I enjoy these because it brings back fond memories of MCRD San Diego and Camp Pendleton....semper fi.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano You are very correct, these B/W where far better than the color ones. It has always been my opinion that the humor and quality was in the fact the marines and sergeants shown in the B/W acted like marines (hard ass) which made gomers escapades even funnier. But in the color ones it seemed everybody was a goof, even Sgt Carter which took away from the whole show.

  • does anyone think that Frank Sutton looks like a younger Kurtwood Smith ? Thumbs up if you agree

  • These black & white Gomer Pyle episodes, I believe, were better than the color. Why? I just don't know. Perhaps it's because they are easier to watch in terms of perceptions.

  • greatest 30 minute show ever --someday this will be proven---gomer and sarge---are second to none

  • " we feel this is an essential part of your training because under our leadership ... it's not uncommon for a group to find itself in the wilderness with inadequate equpiment."

  • Thanks from me too...YOU Rock!! Semper FI
