Given that the industry was made to be salable to teenage girls, I imagine that much of the 'symbolic' Wicca stuff was drawn by a graphic designer in the mid-ninties. There's no history or convention in Wicca. There's a lot of ways you could do this, usually manipulating convection currents. In this case, that could be as simple as the glass not sitting flush with the table or the paper covering something. The red thing is a little suspect as well, you could hide things in that pretty easily.
