Excellent Episode! It shows us the darker necessary parts of humanity. It's far better then the bubble gum episodes of the 'perfect' humans. In fact given are the arguments here its actually the 'perfect' people who are the best hidden villains. They police and force their 'morals' on others which to me is a greater evil then acting like a savage.

@peter1592 Remember the case that he had Tolar put it in. No doubt it was made to withstand an explosion in space. A calculated risk that it would be in that case at the time the bomb went off.
-
I'm not sure if this is a plothole or a detail I forgot - how did Garak guarantee the data rod wouldn't be destroyed in the explosion? I mean, it's not surprising that something that small could survive an explosion intact, but it's also far from assured.

@Rezkeshdadesh I thank the Lord every night that Tasha Yar did not get more development. TNG was almost bearable when I remembered the fact that it could have been much worse

Sisko was the best captain for me, Avery Brooks played the role brilliantly. He was for me the only captain that I could relate to as a person, a regular guy doing a job and raising a child at the same time. He had no time for bullshit and wasn't afraid to do what was needed to get the job done. Janway would have clung to her morals as the Federation burned around her and Jem'Hadar kerb stomped everyone to death.
-
@zetatrain Not to mention the fact that Starfleet could easily deny having any involvement in arranging the meeting in the first place, and publicly state that Sisko was acting alone. Vreenek couldn't use his knowledge w/o making sure to cover himself while maximizing his gains.

About Vreek not telling the Romulans right away
Well put it this way, he is the only one in possession of knowledge that the federation just tried to trick the Romulans into war. That kind of knowledge is priceless and he could use it to greatly effect the Romulan senate politics as well as advance his own political career. Maybe he was waiting to reveal the plot right in front of the Romulan senate which have a much greater affect than just simply radioing it in.

@Bardlettt I agree for the most part Enterprise is trash it does have some good episodes like Damage and In a Mirror Darkly are the top ones in my opinion.
-
@specie8470 No Enterprise episode is "good." Don't get me wrong...I've watched the whole series...multiple times...but, the more I see, the more I realize how much I want to violently murder Braga and Berman for destroying trek.
-
@Kev95682 the Enterprise episode Damage is also good when they have to steal a warp coil from a peaceful species stranding them three years from home.
The thing I feel a lot of Trek fans overlook is that utopias require a lot of hard work and sacrifice to achieve. It's easy to look at TOS and TNG and see people living a near-perfect society, but we don't always see what it took us to get there. DS9 tried to show us the blood, sweat and pain it costs to build utopia, and that we'd be damned if we're not going to shed that same blood and endure that same pain to protect it.

I have to give credit to Sisko as a Starfleet Captain, and Avery Brooks as an actor. Quite a powerful voice and a commanding look. People have a tendency to listen when he speaks. Whether or not you agree with him, you remember what he says.
