That is why neglected lawns always become predominately weeds. Do not believe that you can have a beautiful, lush, thick, weed and insect free lawn without chemical intervention.

Of course, most of us know that grass is a weed (not the "funny tobacca" kind) It grows everywhere, and comes back, thriving, after drought with no help from us. And grass survives pesticide spraying, while everything else around it dies. Makes you think, doesn't it.

It is not that the grass is so tough. Broadleaf weeds have completely different physiology than do cool season grasses. The fact is that the chemicals used to control broadleaf weeds in turf are specifically designed to target those plants. It is called selectivity and it is quite impressive if you understand it. If you apply glyphosate or any other non-selective herbicide, it will take out the grasses just as readily as the weeds. Cont...
