'Eco-Centric', a story by reporter Tim Lee from the 2004 ABC program 'Landline' about permaculture co-originator David Holmgren, whose "pivotal role in developing permaculture has scarcely been recognised" www.holmgren.com.au
@Gunnarsguns Edge extension revolves around the discovery that the edge is the most productive part of a natural system. By incorporating this into site design a Permaculturist is able to increase yield without increasing input of either organic matter, chemicals or labour. Permaculture is taught in Australia from primary school through to University level and is a system for self reliant community development taught throughout the world. Flapping of gums and native animal use is encouraged 8^)
@Gunnarsguns Permaculture is a term coined by two Australians (Bill Mollison and David Holmgren) in the 70's. It makes use of many pre-existing systems, and develops some of its own, for education and dissemination. It is about sustainable agriculture and community development. It is best known for its message of sustainable integrated agricultural practices and opposition to large scale monoculture disturbance agriculture. Permaculture developed areas of interest such as "edge extension".
@kicker0368 o no...i just decided to pop in and flap my gums. What is permaculture?...something to do with sniffing dingo balls?...we dont have those here....i will defer on your expertise on the matter
@Gunnarsguns Just as a question Gunnar have you read anything to do with Permaculture or just watched this and decided to flap your gums? Indeed elements of indigenous cultural practices are used in Permaculture (why reinvent the wheel?) but there is more too it than this 18min video shows. Read "Permaculture: A designers Manual" for a broader overview. "Against The Grain" by Richard Manning gives an overview of the problem with monoculture agricultural practices. Maybe just watch more videos...
I think that they should not be telling others they invented permaculture. If you trick people into thinking that then you are making profit off of your lies.
Invented, rediscovered, why argue about how the language is used? The point is, most people, particularly in the western world have forgotten how to live and a PC course is a great way to rediscover. Let's face it, it has to begin somewhere. Why throw away the whole pudding on the basis of terms used?

This is bullshit. Nobody invented permaculture. What do you think the native americans did for 1000`s of years. Now if some one says they can offer new insights ok...it is appreciated.....but no one invented this idea.
yeah, the holmgren's aren't suffering due to Proper Permaculture Design, using all the principles and ethics.... =) rick and naomi coleman's Southern Cross Permaculture and the 'Keyline' concept are other great resources regarding water use and efficiency. =)

Notice how, even though it was 2004, height of drought, they did not seem to be suffering too much from it.
