I see you (may or may not) have read the Yusuf Ali translated version of the Quran. The text has been sanitized so that is panders more to Western Liberal Values, I recommend you purchase a version which is more faithful to the original text.

Whenever you confront Muslims about some questionable verse in the Koran or point out some archaic custom, they immediately react with hostility and dismiss the existence of the thing in question...I'm speaking from experience...That seems to be a personality characteristic among many middle easterners: deny the existence of an embarrassing thing so as to "save face", avoid being shamed by admitting to its existence.
