On May 10, 1994, I watched an annular eclipse as it passed virtually dead-center over Rochester. This is a simulation of that eclipse using the astronomy program "Stellarium". The first part is a wide view of the simulated southern sky over the course of several hours, notice how the light level drops around midday during the eclipse. (If it had been a total eclipse, it would have gotten much darker!) Next is a simulated close-up of the eclipse, slower than the first part, but still much faster than real-time. The eclipse actually lasted several hours and the annularity phase lasted a few minutes. I watched this eclipse as it happened, but I didn't have anything to record it with, so this simulation is the next best thing.
I saw the eclipse in northeast Ohio that day. It wasn't that dramatic unfortunately even though I think where I was located was nearly dead center also. Only solar eclipse I've ever seen in person.
