it wasn't banned... they took it off the air because sports drinks SHOULD have more calories.

It wasn't banned. The commercial was pulled from the air due to a law suit between Pepsi (who owns Gatorade) and Coca-Cola (who owns Powerade).

That's all been said in the article by Slate that I linked in the description for the video.
It's being called "banned" on here is simply in reference to some of the wording in the original title, also.

It had something to do with a lawsuit over how "low calorie" drinks are bad for athletes.
