Sheathing with foam-board insulation is a great way to get more R-value with a conventionally framed house. It can work just as well in remodeling projects as in new construction. Applying rigid foam takes some getting used to, but the basic tasks are not that much different from installing typical plywood or OSB sheathing—and the lightweight foam is easier on your back...

  • @AstroInsulation Holy shit dude really? Come on! Ever heard of bridging or continuous insulation? Ever seen the price of closed cell foam? That's a whole lot of stupid packed into two small sentences

  • Polyurethane spray foam is a better solution. Probably cheaper and faster too!

  • This is NOT Superinsulating !!! Its like part 1 of 3. there is No solution here for the roof or the foundation. Folks, check out REMOTE wall system. Residential Exterior Membrane Outside-insulation TEchnique

    REMOTE is more like Superinsulating.

  • Looks like your guy was caulking the face of the stud rather than seam . Great way to seel the customer .

  • @HomeEnergyNow . lol. What a simple American.

  • That building technique was being used 50 years ago. They stopped building like that because they were not idiots.

  • Building Green LLC. What are you planning to learn about building from a for profit company that isn't even in the building industry? I would love to see a list of the contractors that subscibe to Green Building Advisor, and avoid them all, that has to be a list of the absolute dumbest builders in the world. DON'T GET BUILDING TIPS FROM THE INTERNET YOU IDIOTS!!! Grow some balls and talk to a human that builds in your area and is respected. There is nothing new just scams online like foam.

  • The exxon/mobile sponsored homes, we need more petroleum products in the construction. Trex, rigid foam, spray foams, pex, housewrap, carpets, pads, vinyl sidings...........petrole....yummmm. Good for indoor air quality?

  • @Ziggyarey You don't have to read it idiot.

  • Do you then nail or screw the siding directly to the foam? What sizes work best? I did something like this by putting 2inch foam on the outside then I screwed a thin layer of plywood to the outside of that to have a base to nail in the siding.
