  • thomas haake is the only virtuoso here. you missed everyone else like, mike portnoy, bobby jarzombek, lyle cooper, lord marco, thomas lang, alex grind, samus, jon rice, gene hoglan, steph from textures and exivious, travis orbin, marco minneman, george kolias, you pretty much for got about everyone

  • @mtabet02 I'm not impressed with Mike's work, but I'm referring to technicality, not someone doing a million fast fills, that isn't hard, that is endurance drumming if anything, I play the drums, and also looked at videos for each drummer you said

    Mike-Overrated

Bobby-good, not top 5 worthy, but still good.

Lyle-blast beats, not much else, not impressed.

Lord Marco-blast beats were good, fills were boring, and lackluster

    Lang-snare technique is impressive

    grind-okay

    samus-blast beats

  • @mtabet02 Overall, you are impressed by blast beats, not saying that it is easy to do, but it is not insanely difficult either. It is 3/4 endurance, and 1/4 skill. I'm glad that you don't think Joey, Dave, or Lars are the best, but you should check out Buddy Rich, or Gene Krupa. They aren't metal, but I guarantee you that those two inspired every modern drummer. Stef Broks is also pretty good.

  • Lars rules, hes just not a showoff and knows how to lead a band

  • @Ramtough93 That being said, I respect him greatly as a song writer.

  • @Ramtough93 he just doesn't measure up in drum skill to a lot of these guys tho.

  • I definitely agree with Tomas Haake as number one. This guy completely destroys legends like Rich or Morello, and at the same time he is a technical genius.

  • @CoolCoverBro Dave is the perfect drummer for speed/thrash metal in my opinion but you have a good point.

  • @CoolCoverBro In AFJA, Lars did little things that complimented the song, in Eye of the Beholder and To Live is To Die, Lars had a style that resembles that of what Vinnie Paul would later use, in songs like AFJA, Frayed Ends of Sanity, and Shortest Straw, he does the awkward fills and changes the drums in each verse, which I admired deeply. In MOP, my idea of the best thrash metal album ever, Damage inc. and Disposable Heroes is Lars's best work in my eyes. Load and reload were decent.

  • @Ramtough93 First off, Slayer put out their first album less than 6 months after Metallica's Kill 'Em All. They both played since '80, so that argument is who got money first, and who took more time in studio. RTL is much better on drums than master of puppets, because he used interesting (for him) fills and technical beats. AJFA was decent, but it does not match any other drummer in the big four, and certainly not like Tomas Haake. I personally like load/reload more, because it has musicality.

  • @Ramtough93 No, That would be Charlie Benante, he rarely does any major fills, or hard beats, but when he does, he makes it superb. His style has been replicated in metal more than Lars, or even Dave. He invented full on double bass, Lars and Dave didn't do that until their second album. Lars is someone who had POTENTIAL, not skill, and rarely used it, his solo was sloppy, bland, and just a simple drum beat with some to little fills.
