@Mopthedop9 I have skated for 14 years and done the craziest things you can imagine, broke many bones, almost lost an eye, was close to death once... But I have to admit that since I started surfing, there's absolutely no comparison. I mean that I've tried freeriding (snowboarding) and it was almost suicidal at moments; but the fun, adrenaline, fight against the elements and emotions I get from surfing are comparable to nothing. And I have tried so many extreme sports.
But surf is THE emotion

So, as a beginning surfer, I am not familiar with the etiquette. I do not want to barge on in and start looking like an idiot. I know most responses will be stay out of the water, but I am determined to learn & hopefully fit in. Can you or anyone tell me the proper etiquette once I'm in the water?

K....to everyone whos arguing whats better.. please both sides SHUT UP as long as someone has ther opinion the fighting will NEVER stop...... I'm a surfer as well. ive tried skating and i dont like it. BUT thats my opinion and im not gonna go off on youtube and rant about how its so much better then skating... it makes u all look like children.

@Mopthedop9 agreed, you can surf forever. but skating takes a toll on the body after 25

That's not true bonehead, I surf Bali to escape your problems but apparently you answered your own question with skating. Salesmen? Try buying a trip to Bali and quit depending on free surf, SoCal is junk by comparison to Bali or anywhere for that matter. And stop impairing my Youtube user name or I will personally comedown to San jose to fix your attitude punk
Surfing will always
and i mean always
be better than skating
there is so much more
adreniline and much more
risk

Downgoesfrazier...I am sending a charter bus loaded with commuting barnies down your way to personally verify your account of Trestles. Be on the look out for guys wearing 4/3 full suits in the dead of Summer, webbed gloves and booties. They will be easily identified with conflicting surf team and/or logo stickers and the frequent "hoot" for a 3 FT. drop-in. I've requested they drop in on each wave as if it were their own break with little to no disregard to the lineup.
Signed,
An LA Surfer
