Do you treat ingrown toe nails?

We do treat ingrown toe nails. It can be a very painful condition. Many of my patients that come to me have had the problem several times and they have tried to resolve the problem themselves by trimming the nail and they try to avoid going to the doctor.

However, this is one of those conditions, that simply won't go away unless it gets treated by a podiatrist.

In most cases, we have to remove the nail completely. In some chronic cases or if there is an infection, we will need to do more extensive work. Remove the infected tissue and we will completely destroy the nail bed on the side of the nail which allows the ingrown toe nail to come out.

This can be a painful procedure, however, after the procedure is completed the patient should not experience any more pain. Most patients do incredibly well and do not have the problem occur again.

The re-occurrence rate for ingrown toe nails after this procedure is only 2%.

Most patients are extremely happy after having the procedure done and do not experience any more problems again.
