Robertgift - I've played this a thousand times. I don't agree with any of your comments about Marie-Claire except that it was indeed skillfully played. Schreiner plays well but is certainly not the "best" at anything. Good luck with your continued learning. I hear Marie-Claire is still giving master classes. Perhaps you could attend one. The ones I've been to are quite amazing.
Yes, this piece is not so difficult, except the toccata-style part climax, wich requires big hands and long fingers in order to be executed correctly. I'm learning this, it's funny to playing and to memorize, and I'm fortunate to have long fingers!
Who the hell is the idiot critiqueing Marie-Claire?
I highly doubt anyone at the morman tabernacle has ever even played a Caville Coll organ let alone be able to critique the best organist in the modern world... B +???? When you are the most sought after organ professor in the world then maybe you can grade her Mr Robertgift o shit
Actually, in the score there are reeds at 8' and 4' with foundation stops on the Récit and they are coupled to the Pédale from the beginning. I heard this at St. Sulpice, Notre Dame de Paris and at Sacré-Coeur in 1999 and this was the common registration for all of them. Without the reeds in the Récit, the line is lost. Also there is no other expressive division. It's like the Widor 5th Toccata. Notice no screaming mixtures ANYWHERE. That's what makes Cavaillé-Coll organs so fantastic!
Pedal too loud at the beginning. No reed should be there.
So skillfully played. But a little retard would be nice at the appropriate locations. Instead, she rushes into the next section, de-emphasizing some wonderful drama.
B+
Alexander Schreiner at the Mormon Tabernacle organ plays this best.
Do you know when this recording was made? I heard that the voicing of some reeds were chanced in 1984, could be that Daniel Roth had it reversed by renaud or gossou later.
