  • Problem is if the U.S. presence becomes oppressively meddlesome, this in the spirit of the imperial model dominating U.S. foreign policy, then the owner of the bank financing this presence (China) might flex its muscle in the pit where U.S. Treasury securities trade. So, like an energy policy centered on windmills, the announced shift in U.S. defense policy might amount to blowing so much air -- all being harmonious with a nation staring down the barrel of insolvency.

  • This sounds like the containment of communism that happened during the Cold War. Is China posing an immediate threat to these other countries? Can we afford to do this when we have a war going on in Afghanistan? No.
