Tarp Tensioner

Since everyone pretty much carry's a tarp these days weather your hitching, riding trains, or hiking I thought I would make a little video on how you can make a tarp tensioner really easy using only 12" of shockcord, and about 30" of any thin cord.

I don't quite remember were I saw how to make these since it was about 6 or more months ago but they are pretty sweet to have.

I don't think that shock cord is going to be enough to hold up a tarp. It's a good idea, just not strong enough.

@cundiff91 I'm going to have to disagree with you. Ive used it about 40-50 times since this video was posted and ive had my tarp pitched next to the Columbia River once with 30mph sustained winds and it held up just fine.

whats the difference in using this method versus just using a small bungee cord?

Nice. I have been using basically the same thing on my tarp now for quite a while. These are especially smart to use with silnylon tarps since they will stretch once they have been pitched.

Also a fun little fact ^_^ taut-line hitch was even used by astronauts on the 2nd repair mission for Hubble! :)

Good Ingenuity! Definitely trying out some ideas, good progress though :) :) However, why not use a taut-line hitch? If you need tension on a line, a grip knot like a taut line should handle this issue with needing tension. If you need more tension on a line, a trucker's hitch or the versatackle hitch might be much more quick and painless than this. I hope this might further your interest in knots good sir! @widerstand What size thickness of shock cord did you use? It just didn't look strong by how easy it looked to stretch it. I saw this video when I was looking for a way to tighten guylines for a tent, and I may give this a try just to see if it works.
