Renée Fleming's next CD will be released on February 20, 2012 (March 6, USA) and it features sensual 20th century masterpieces by French composers Maurice Ravel, Henri Dutilleux, and Olivier Messiaen.

Featured here is the 4th poem in Henri Dutilleux's Le temps l'horloge (Time and the Clock).

  • Is this from the existing recording there is of her doing the Dutilleux or the new one? I've grown to love the piece slowly...

@primohomme She won't do another Bel Canto CD, she has given that repertoire up. Much as I loved her Bel Canto excerpts disc, and even more the 1993 Armida, she doesn't have the flexibility or power for these roles any more. She's still magnificent here.

  • @celloguy

This is from a live broacast with the Paris National Orchestra, conducted by Seiji Ozawa on May 7, 2009.

  • @celloguy

it is a piece that has grown on me too. detilleux wrote it specifically to match the special qualities of renee's voice and if you love her voice then this is a piece you will grow to appreciate, no matter how strange it sounds at first.

  • Please I highly disagree with the comments of her losing flexibilty in her voice! She still sings bel canto arias from time to time! If you see her tour list, plus her performance at the MET 2011 you would see that she still sings Bel canto! Renee Fleming is a woman and artist of true flexibilty and range. True fleming fans know that Fleming is a person who is very strict about what she sings, and what she chooses to add to her repitore. She sings what she wants. Never underestimate her!

  • @CallasAfrica

10 years ago she could have sung either of them, not sure at this stage of her career

Indeed the voice has lost some flexibility, and she has too much class and dignity to sing something as difficult as Anna Bolena or Roberto Devereux not at her very best...that's why I love her and loathe Gruberova and Devia :D

  • @asdfopera Yes I have that CD too - expensive it was too! I love Dutilleux's work in general, but I thought initially that this one was rather minor in his output, and didn't think he had particularly written well for the voice. But as I say it's grown, and for the work of a 93 year old its amazing!

  • @CallasAfrica Im afraid you better put that out of your mind. It would be awesome, but she is learning Ariadne auf naxos and it will probably will be her last role.

  • I seem to remember her saying she was going to add a new bel canto role in the next few years during the armida run at the met. . . . . . Im hoping for semiramide but it could just as well be bolena sharing with radvanovsky in the next planned run. . . Or devereaux maybe. . . .

  • I don't care what Renee sings--I'll listen to it. I'm excited about this new album. She always sounds so glorious when she sings in French. I knew that she was recording a new album this past summer while she was in Paris doing "Otello" and I've been eagerly anticipating the release of the album ever since. Can't wait! SING ON RENEE!

  • As nice as it would be for Renee to do another belcanto recording, I really like the fact that she chooses to record composers that are more not as well known as others, and also supports new music.
