@MartaineJr errr, thats not the way I understand it. I feel like like being over-taught makes you focus too much on technique and tempo and lose some of the creative flavor that you have when you just pick it up and start making sounds. Its great to have technique under your belt but i think when it becomes too over-stressed, the emotional and musical side starts to lose out. I cant never play to a metronome for this exact reason while im composing, i lose my attachment with the emotion

22 people clicked 'Dislike'... How's that for witty?

i'll chime in - i was a trained trumpeter for 10 years until a dental accident forced me to stop. as well, i've been a self-taught guitarist for the last 8 years. i play publicly weekly and make feeble efforts to write music similar to hedges & candyrat guitarists (since before i discovered them years ago).
that said i was much more proficient as a trained trumpeter. as a guitarist, i have learned slower but find the creative process much more enjoyable (i.e. i'm never bored).

I love this guitar (music man). Pino play and play and play............

This is scary. Beautiful, yet very scary.
This piece is beautiful not because it is technical but because the player has an intimate touch. It swells and fades effortlessly with no seam and every note carries a sense of lightness and weight.
As a long time player and listener I can't think of few greater praises than to say that when I listen to a song, I can feel every single note and my mood changes dramatically with its ebb and flow. Pino does that here and the scary thing is - he can take it alot further. One to watch for sure.

i disagree.
It may be true that more self taught people make good music, but it's not because people who had a teachers are dumbasses that can't think outside the box.
it's because if someone self taught himselfto this level, it means he LOVES what he does, and this love is what makes him produce great music.
people who were taught to play\compose and love it as much as self taught people could produce music of the same\better quality.
music isn't about education. it's about emotion.
