They specifically made this album this way to expand their sound. They wanted to do something that scared them. And they like it. That's too bad that you don't, but it's really not up to you to decide who the true fans are. Tegan and Sara were interviewed about the sound of this album, on CBC radio. Go listen to it. Maybe you'll understand that their music is their own, not yours to decide. Duh

I get that the sound of the album is closer to pop, but people, you have to understand that for artists to make it, they have to adapt to standards of the industry. Be happy that Tegan and Sara adapted AND stayed true to their roots that we all love. They took a big risk BUT garnered the support of their so toughly built fanbase and created a new sound for themselves that the old fanbase would love too. Imagine how tough that was. They put out an amazing album that defies their genre boundaries.

You know, they got many new fans because (!) they dared to try something different. They might have lost some, too, but they definitely found new ones as well! I mean, you do see that they are getting more popular? Since so many of you are complaining exactly about that. I'm in Germany, and I've only heard about them half a year ago. I am happy I did. :)

True, and music should only be made for the self, but if you want to become popular and so on, you do have to care what the fans have to say since they're your main source of income. Music doesn't make money unless you make it big.
