The point was to gain attention to the cause of human rights. Don't be so critical until you have to fight for rights in the same social climate they did in the late 70s. There is every reason to be proud.

It wasn't her speech, but her actions, that prompted this act of protest. Better to gain attention with an embarrassing, but harmless pie in the face than to do it by taking innocent lives. It, in no way, compares to what a jihadist would do.

It's true we need to move past these types of acts, and we have, but it wasn't a childish act. It was a means to gain national exposure and to send a message that we weren't going to lie down and let them refuse us our rights. It was a very effective method. It was a nonviolent way to get their attention and to keep the equal rights conversation going nation wide. I do consider what he did to be quite noble, and will always be proud of him for what he did. For doing something.

before i make my comment i would like to say i am gay myself and i have been studying the history of homophobia for years so i'm not naive i understand the brutality the LGBT community faced back then and the struggle for equal rights was much harder during this time that being said i do not think that what ur brother did was a noble thing simply because that just as back then people percieve the community as something evil and destructive though it's good to have a voice we must not come with
