Today the House is voting on the 2008 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill - it works to fulfill our nation's obligation to America's servicemen and women, their families and our veterans. It provides the largest increase in funding for veterans health care in the VA's 77-year history, adding over 1,000 new claims processors to reduce the backlog of 400,000 benefits claims. It also increases funding to address the VA's repair and maintenance needs to prevent a Walter Reed type scandal from occurring in the VA system.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Chet Edwards, and Congresswoman Nancy Boyda and leaders of national Veterans Service Organizations held a news conference to highlight a record increase in veterans funding in the 2008 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill.

I voted Democrat in the last election; I voted against every Republican on the page. Well, I did vote for one Republican in my state, but he is GONE, if I get another chance to vote. Directive 51 has me worried that Bush will use it to call marshal law and suspend the elections. I pray I am wrong, but I have read Directive 51 and can't understand why it would have been created if Bush and his henchmen didn't intend to use it?

I am an X Republican, so I can't throw stones at them; look at the corruption in our justice system. When did Republicans believe in the torture of other human beings? That was the last straw for me; I don't know what party I am now but it isn't Republican anymore.

it's about time the house started to up funding for the VA. However, it's also ironic that these same representatives are so quick to pull the funding on currently serving troops and declaring that they've been defeated, lost the war and cannot win. I guess since the democrats have naturally occurring forked tongues that hypocrisy & lies don't really count...
