On July 28th 2008 Wayne Harris, Director of the Albemarle Economic Development Commission (AEDC), and Andy Montero, owner & chef of Montero's Restaurant, went onto WVEC-TV for a noon news interview with Janet Roach. They spoke about Downtown Waterfront Market and how it was to host Market: Impossible Chef's Challenge happening Aug. 2, 2008 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Armed with little more than salt, pepper, chef Andy Montero will hunt down locally-grown foods to prepare a gourmet meal in record time when the Downtown Waterfront Market hosts a "Market: Impossible" chef's challenge, Saturday, Aug. 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Elizabeth City. Based on the popular Food Network program, "Dinner: Impossible," the live event will showcase the bounty of home-grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, dairy products and organic foods that are sold each Saturday at the newly-formed market.
The Downtown Waterfront Market is open Saturday mornings from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, on the green at Mariners' Wharf in Elizabeth City. Under white tents filled with home-grown goods, vendors from throughout northeastern North Carolina sell fresh produce, baked goods, gourmet foods, dairy products, plants and flowers and handcrafted wares. Local musicians and entertainers perform, and coffee and fresh-squeezed limeades and orangeades are available for purchase. In its first year, the market opened in May and will continue through Oct. 25, 2008. For information, call the Downtown Waterfront Market at (252) 338-0169 or the Visitors Bureau at 1-866-324-8948.
