Nearly a million innocent British citizens could have their records removed from the national DNA database after a court ruled holding them breached their human rights. The European Court of Human Rights severely criticised police powers to take and hold samples from suspects even if they are released or cleared.

British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she was disappointed with the ruling and would consider it carefully before responding.

The result is a victory for two Britons who have been fighting to change the law after police insisted on retaining their DNA records.

Michael Marper, 45, was arrested in March 2001 and charged with harassing his partner, but the case was dropped three months later after the two were reconciled. He had no previous convictions. In a separate case, a 19-year-old named in court only as "S" was arrested and charged with attempted robbery in January 2001 when he was 12, but he was cleared five months later.

The men, both from Sheffield, asked that their fingerprints, DNA samples and profiles be destroyed. South Yorkshire Police refused, saying the details would be retained "to aid criminal investigation".

The men's claims were later thrown out by the House of Lords, which ruled that keeping the information was not illegal under the Criminal Justice and Police Act, and did not breach human rights.

But earlier this year, when the cases came before the Human Rights Court, lawyers for the two men argued that keeping the DNA of innocent citizens left them under a cloud of suspicion.

It violated their "right to respect for private life" and "prohibition of discrimination" safeguarded by the Human Rights Convention, to which the UK is a signatory.

The verdict from the European Court of Human Rights could force the Government to remove the DNA details of hundreds of thousands of Britons from the current total of about 4.5 million held on the England, Wales and Northern Ireland database

  • So if the government has all information on us such as dna, fingerprints and photographs does that make us property of the government?

Also the government thinks we should be profiled before we're even born what does that mean?

Does that mean that our partents by government mandate have been decided as being unsuitable and that we should be brought up by the state?

Isnt that something very simular to what Hitler did?

Are we to be treated like the human farm animal?

  • Those are an interesting questions that i sure wish the government would answer. There was a report by the Human Genetics Commission very recently that threw up the fact that the DNA of more than 75% of Britain's black males between age 18 and 35 is on file. They take the DNA of every person arrested, regardless of guilt. That all tantamount to racial profiling. It's unbelievable! Makes me sick! :-(

  • Pre-birth!!!! WTF?

  • I knoooow!!!! shocking eh?

whatever about him thinking that... but saying it? and there not being massive outrage?

    crazy huh?!

  • Excellent video - especially the shocking Blair quote. Clearly The British State has done a major business deal with some DNA data-management company, and is seeking any excuse to increase the amount of profiles stored.

  • Lets all patent our own DNA. That way if anyone uses it, or a variation thereof, without our permission we can sue their asses!!!! :-)

  • Spartacat - fantastic vid! As yuo are most likely aware I have been following this; the court's ruling was great news, the governments response less so. Galloway is a boffin, but has the right idea at times!

    Again, great video :-)

  • Did anyone know that you can program a virus to attack a certain DNA code and destroy or alter that said DNA?Wonder what "they" are planning.

Another thing,Why "Harvest" so much DNA?What are their intentions?

Sell it on to the Highest bidder?

    Create an Army of Clones?

Utilise it for the purpose of enslavement?

One day the whole human race will suffer because of this,Mark my words, Agenda's are never known until the time they are initiated for the benefit of the mega-minority upon the majority

  • Any good coin store has silver coins. I have purchased a couple of silver one oz bars. I bought them last year at 14 dollars. My brother Kevin lent me some money to pay off some of my debt. I have tried to pay him back, but he won't let me. I don't even have his address. He is now in the Navy stationed outside of Seattle. I owe my other brother, Philip, $168 for a plane ticket. I have been trying to pay him back, but I can't get him to send me his address. He is stationed at Annapolis(Navy).

  • fantastic questions. but i am surprised and disgusted by how many people i know who think it's acceptable.

we are property of the government because of our corporate ALIAS assigned to us by birth certificates and social security numbers - that is where the legal precedence for DNA ownership lies.

  • Ive seen a few of them oinline. I just like getting the cheap bullion one ounce coins. But not the cheapest. I like something thats at least had a little bit of work done on it.

And well done for getting out of debt. It took my brother years and even i helped him on it. It stopped him having to pay interest and yhe just owes me what ive lent him. I dont charge family lol

  • These ancient coins have historical value as well as metal value. I am soaking many of these in long term treatment in olive oil to remove 2000 years of gunk that they were buried in. It is fun to clean these coins and then research who they are and when they were made. They didn't have banks then, so most people buried their hoard. Who knows how many of these coins are still buried in the UK?

  • Nicos,

One of my brothers took me to see Dave Ramsey. A national syndicate radio talk show that teaches getting out of debt. I have since then done so. Both of my brothers have long been ahead of me in this. They have zero debt and save their money. I have paid off my debt and am working on savings. I can't afford gold at 1160 a oz. But silver is still cheap. I buy silver coins. In my studies I also have purchase several thousand ancient Roman and Greek coins. Most are bronze and some silver.

  • Completly agree. More and more we're becoming the human farm animal. Just a another part of the "states" productive and even military capacity. Serfs and Fudalism is coming back in a big way. But the best thing us serfs can do is get rid of all our debt and buy gold and silver.

Silver is only $18 an ounce so its something we can all afford

  • NicosMind, It is obvious a form of slavery. What i mean is they are trying to have complete control over you from birth to grave. This constitutes slavery.

    Frio.
