The Harford County Power Surge Incident,
August 23, 1988 Started at 10:35AM
Moores Mill Road, Bel Air, Maryland
(Video clips from an original copy)

A Power surge was created when Aspen Tree service dropped a tree branch on to 33,000 volt line. Then the 33,000 volt line fell onto a 13,000 volt line, and it dumped 20,000 extra volts into the electric lines and houses. The safety system failed to shut off the electric! This tape is used for different electric, and fireman training classes.

  • @disableddogowner lol, but also the power company *should* have noticed the extra voltage surge too, and manually shut the breakers off.

  • boy thats a big lawsuit to rewire a whole house will cost some money.

  • @Thunderbolt1000T I think the problem affected the houses because, the upper , higher voltage line burned and then fell on the lower distribution line. That put a higher voltage than normal into the houses.

I wish the reporters could understand and report some depth.

  • Did he say "Main Gas Electric meter box"????

  • The tree company may be partly to blame ! BUT ! THE power companys circuit breakers must not have been working properly ! END OF STORY

  • Louis Keffaufer (sorry if it is spelt wrong), is that the same guy who owned the True Value Keefaufer down in Coopstown?

  • @elgavilan2000 asplund tree trimming is still very much in business, i see them blocking the roads all the time.

  • Why don't the news crews show the part of the video where the sparks shoot around the house? That would have made more impressive viewing than what they showed

  • live right down the road now. and actually work for kefauvers woohoo

  • hahaha this is right in front of my house and i never knew! lol awesome! no wonder they ALWAYS are out there cuting the trees back
