Lifecast mold making with 880 from Accucast. I put my shaved head to good use and did an open mouth lifecast mold with no bald cap. This is a VERY truncated version of a lifecast. The complete process is explained on our Lifecasting 101 DVD.

  • Should the plaster bandages be applied while the alginate is still setting up, or should you wait a significant amount of time before laying on the bandages? I tried face-casting the other night, and I found the plaster didn't grab the alginate well once it was firmly set.

  • @jekulac Plaster bandages will not stick to alginate set or not. You will need to embed some cotton fiber in the alginate to get a bond.

  • @brickintheyard How much cotton fiber for, say, a 5 lbs mold? A little bit or enough to cover the head?

  • @SoliloquyFilms I just unroll about 4-6 cotton balls.

  • how much alginate did you use?

  • @liamblackere This took about 1.5 lbs of 880.
