"Buck man" is the pejorative term used in Guyana to describe aboriginal people. This poem penetrates that stereotype. Thanks to Stephanie Correia for use of eight of her pictures, along with mine.
"Buck" is a pejorative term indeed! Infact many Indian and Black Guyanese freely calls many aboriginal people of Guyana this term and does not think its discriminative. But I do think its very disrespectful to associate the aboriginal people whom are appropriately called "Amerindians" as buck. Since buck is known as slang for stupid, and other degrading adjectives etc in Guyana. Please Guyanese people, stop your ignorance and start respecting all the races in Guyana, especially the Amerindians!
Cool! The whole thing! Arawani describes it as a feast for the eyes and ears - that is a good description! Thanks! The artwork, by the way, is WAY COOL! Would love to hear the stories on each painting someday.
Thanks, once more, for one more treasure! I even recognized some of the drawings from the booklet (I still have it) Through Arawak Eyes. Keep up the creative job, please!!! Hugs, love and peace.
