At 0:47 the girls first see “Sunset Sam.” The shot of this absurd character, combined with the music chord just then, creates a ghastly “WTF” moment that is brilliant video-making. Sam is so outlandish yet casual that he is hilarious, especially because this is how things in Hollywood really are. I myself was born in Hollywood. As long as you don’t deal drugs, or expose your genitals in public, ANYTHING GOES! The more I study this video, the more it impresses me. Thanks again for uploading it!

Yes, I’ve always enjoyed this funny satire on L.A. culture. Lucy is from Compton (i.e. she’s Black), Ramona from Brooklyn (she’s a Jew or a Puerto Rican) and Sam is from Arizona (a whacked-out white boy). All of them hook up in the surreal world of Hollywood, or Venice Beach, where it is typical to see someone wearing skivvies in public like the quasi-gay “Sam” in the video. Overall this song is quintessentially L.A. -- which was exactly Nesmith’s intention. Thanks for uploading it. :)

This sort of thing actually happens out there.I remember walking down the Sunset Strip back in the late Seventies,strolling past this sort of a fellow wearing hot-pants with a certain part of his anatomy dangeling down out of his daisy-dukes cutoffs.Me,in my mid-twenties back then,well this fellow looks at me square in the eyes and sees the apitomy of horror on my face,and the freak just starts laughing.It was a sight that scared the frickin hell out of me;I'll never forget it.I should have ran!
