Most old recordings you can find on wire are from AM radio. Therefore the sound is limited to that from AM radio. Here I found a wire recording from an unknown amateur jazz trio. The sound quality is amazing. Probably recorded with a crystal microphone.

  • can you loop them? I wonder if you could create wire recorder echo effects

  • @sleestack808 ; No that would not be possible because the system doesn't use capstan but the wire is pulled by the pickupreel.

  • Roughly what year would this be from.??..it's brilliant!

  • must be 1950 -1953

  • Wasn't it quite dated by that time? When did they go out of fashion? That wire must have been a hassle if it broke. Did they solder it or what? Was the quality better thanmag tape when it came into use?

  • One of my recorders has been first purchased April 1952. If the wire snaps you simply knot them together again. The quality of all the wires I transferred till now was remarkable. They cannot suffer from sticky shed syndrome.

  • can u make an instructional video on how to make one?

  • @BeJi74

I don't think it is "September in the Rain", it sound quite alike, but the gay introducing the band says that it's a composition of the pianist.

  • @Dylpickleh

He is introducing the band. I don't know exactly what he says, but he names each of the members and says which instrument he plays, and then says something about the author of the song. The song is not "September in the Rain", at least from what I get of what he says, the pianist composed it.

  • Amazing!!!

  • airplanes used them until the 70's I think

  • Its real no over dubs or pro tools, todays recordings are so far removed from faithful repro. I remeber the switchfrom analog to digital and a year or so later they come out with tech that sounds like analog very dumb a lot of work to get to the same place

  • A truly amazing bit of footage a very pleasant piece of music.

    thanks for sharing :)
