Jimmy Cliff OM (born James Chambers, 1 April 1948, St Catherine, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae musician, best known among mainstream audiences for songs like
"Sittin' in Limbo", "You Can Get It If You Really Want It" and "Many Rivers to Cross" from The Harder They Come, a film soundtrack which helped popularise reggae across the world.

  • Back in the day the best just stood up and did their thing, their moves and their songs. Nowadays it is boobs and booty, gimmicks, pyrotechnics. Where has the talent gone?

  • Leslie Kong was a Chinese-Jamaican man who owned an ice-cream parlor. Jimmy Cliff at 12 convinced him with his written song "Dearest Beverly", and the rest is history. Kong went on to produce other artists, including the now-legendary Desmond Dekker which led to the first pure Jamaican song to hit the top worldwide "Israelites".

  • I was in High School a I was talking to a blues guy back in 69-70 and what is said is true. the same here was true here in the states as well. I talked to this musician (Michael Bloomfield) and some musicians just couldn't get recognized. Otis Rush for example.the truth be said most African Americans in those times and before.

  • @maparke100 I happen to have some inside knowledge of why certain artistes didnt get their foot into the international scene to the extent they "should: have, and lets just say that some rather powerful people had their hand in holding certain Jamaican artistes back while pushing others out there...
