These three ladies stamped their mark on the catwalks of Singapore and established themselves internationally in the 1980s. All three of them, and many more familiar names and faces gathered at St Regis Hotel on May 12 to mark the 35th anniversary of Carrie Models, a local modeling agency that is one of the top agencies in Asia today.

Responsible for discovering talents like Qiqi, Hanis Hussey and current homegrown 'it' girl Sheila Sim, the woman behind the agency's success is managing director Linda Teo, who bought over the company from ex-model and founder Carrie Wong in 1981.

The pint-sized dynamo then expanded the business to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, with a network of affiliates all over the world and more than 500 models on the agency's current roster.

But she admits that spotting local talent these days is a lot harder. 'The difference in the standard of modeling then and now is that the demands are higher. Standards all over the world in terms of models have changed. In the 70s and 80s, at 1.6m you can model. But now, the shortest is 1.75m for girls and 1.82m for guys,' she opined.
