"Taran the Magnificent" was Gordon Scott's sixth, and final, film as Tarzan. It was directed by Robert Day in 1960 and also starred Betta St John as Fay Ames, John Carradine as Abel Banton, and Jock Mahoney, who would take over the role of Tarzan in the next film, as Coy Banton. This segment is an excerpt from the documentary, "The Many Faces of Tarzan" (1996).

  • This is my personal favorite Tarzan film. It's tight, well acted, and has a great ensamble cast. Jock Mahoney is particularly good as the main villain and a believable foil for Gordon Scott, who was great as a very stoic Tarzan. I can never decide who I like better as Tarzan; Scott, or the more seasoned and mature Mahoney in the next two films, but they both gave the character some new dimensions and all the Sy Weintraub films were strong. They really SHOULD be on DVD by now!

  • As far as I know the only Tarzan film not currently widely available on DVD is Denny Miiler's "Tarzan the Ape Man" from 1959. The Warner's Archive Collection, released within the last six months or so, includes all of the Lex Barker, Gordon Scott, Jock Mahoney and Mike Henry films. Available from Amazon.com and eBay.

  • Betta St. John is alive and well in Banning, CA. She said it was great making this movie because they got to travel to Africa.

  • @13APM I think ALL his films should be available from Ebay or Amazon.com

  • One of the best fight sequences between Scott and Mahoney..the two Tarzans battle it out!

  • Not available on video-DVD or VHS??? Why?????
