I think that if Johnny Depp was to play Beetlejuice it would have had a compleatly different effect. I think Micheal Keaton was a good choice.

In the old script Beetlejuice wants to kill the Deetzes rather than scare them, and wants to rape Lydia instead of marry her.
Generaly it was much more morbid. It's all on Wikipedia.

Not to mention that Beetlejuice was gonna be a winged reptilian demon that once summoned can not be stopped at all and he would take the form of a middle eastern man.
