I remembered when this song came out, I was a kid. I found it strange that this murder and such a horrible one I might say was never solved. I would think that there would be epitus in solving it owing to the savage nature of the crime? One would only then think that perhap some people were covering up certain facts of the case so not test relations? The base is no longer there so why not re-open the case? I am very curious to know what really happened.
and yes from recollection one could see the road she worked on from that school. if she was in fct put into a van then they took her away and killed her and brought her back. Because I think her body was found very close to where she worked at the base. Such a shame someone could murder a person and get away completely free.
it doesn't necessaryily follow that the killer was off the base though although I can see why people would say this. The crime seems one of hate and I wonder if in fact the killer would not have had a grudge against her. Hence maybe being from Antigua and knowing her - not to say that someeone from the base could also have had a grudge. I know the hotel training school and yes it overlooked her spot.
@OriginalJoseyWales The talk in the ex-pat community was that the killer had to be someone from off-island because what Antiguan would cut her head and hands off to prevent her being identified? No local man would waste time at a murder scene when he knew the body would be identified simply because there were hardly any murders on the island at that time.
The poor woman worked the base, was murdered just outside...you can see why people thought the killer was a US serviceman.
@OriginalJoseyWales Hi OJW. The witness was a guy who worked as a night watchman at the Hotel Management college, which overlooked the area where she used to work. He is supposed to have told the police that he saw a 'light skinned (black) man' and another guy bundle her into the back of a van on the night of the killing. He allegedly said the men looked as if they were off the base.
@geldo5 her head was severed from her body. The government never did much by way of investigation. I think this was because she was a prostitute. I remember that Scotland yard was called in. Where did you hear about this van ?
Am I right in thinking Obstinate's sister was the middle-aged prostitute who worked the US base? I thought a witness saw her being bundled into a van by two guys and the van came from the navy base?
