My video diary of the Marmotte cyclosportive, held in the French Alps on 4th July, 2009. The 174 kilometre event starts in Bourg d'Oisans and takes in the climbs of the Tour de France with the Col du Glandon, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galbiier and finishes at the legendary ski resort of Alpe d'Huez. In total, 7,000 riders started the event which climbed 5000 metres of vertical ascent over the 174 kilometres.

This was my seventh Marmotte event, and I finished in 8 hours and 18 minutes, seven and a half minutes faster than in 2008.

  • Nive vid man!

I was there also, I did it in 8h 04'.

27 minutes better than in 2008, my goal was to do it under the 8 hours, but the heatness on Alpe d'Huez was killing me!

  • Well done, great time. I had hoped to be a few minutes better, but like you, the heat on Alpe d'Huez turned it into survival on the climb. My goal for my eighth Marmotte next year is under the eight hours. I don't think I'll get near the 7:41 that I did in 2002, but under the eight hours would be good.

  • Well done on your time, am over there in three weeks to have a crack at the route and do some other climbs as well. Great footage, which camera did you use for this ?

  • I use a Canon Ixus 860 IS, and hold it in the hand. It's more a camera for taking photos, but it's small, fits nicely in the back pocket, and the video quality is great for a film like this.

  • i rode the marmotte for the first time on saturday...having said that it was the first time i have riden in the alps being only 18 and did 11h11min quite chuffed.....very good footage and camera

  • Well done, Mattieoo. Saturday was a very tough day with the heat, especially on the Alpe d'Huez. It will get a little easier after the first - you know what's coming.

  • Nice vid, very inspirational, we are going out there in few weeks to give it a go, who knows if I will make it or what time !

  • Great video!!

July 2th i will do my first Marmotte. Watching this video makes me smile!

  • Very impressive. I hope i can ride this event someday.

  • Great video, which made me even more pleasure to the La Marmotte and has especially encouraged me to purchase a helmet camera. Thank you again for that and a healthy, happy and easy-round success in 2011. This year I want to be with the Les 3 Ballons and the Engadine Cycle Marathon with a helmet camera at the start. Perhaps the Ötztaler, if I have luck of the draw. Well, then all the best and please do keep it up.

  • Really good video with great music. Watched it about 50 times now.

  • Great video. Love it. Well chosen music, I watch this video many times and I never get tired. Muy buen video. La música es muy buena. Greetings from here to all the Marmotte racers. Vive La Marmotte!

  • Great impression this tastes for more!!!

  • Wow, very cool.

  • Nice video man! Last year(2009) I turned 18 and could finally ride the Marmot! Eventually I did it in 9h and like 10 minutes.. but the Alpe d'Heuz was killing me.. literally crawled up that mountain!

I hope I can get under the 9 hours this year!
