My video diary of the Marmotte cyclosportive, held in the French Alps on 4th July, 2009. The 174 kilometre event starts in Bourg d'Oisans and takes in the climbs of the Tour de France with the Col du Glandon, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galbiier and finishes at the legendary ski resort of Alpe d'Huez. In total, 7,000 riders started the event which climbed 5000 metres of vertical ascent over the 174 kilometres.
This was my seventh Marmotte event, and I finished in 8 hours and 18 minutes, seven and a half minutes faster than in 2008.

Great video, glad you took your camera along to record it. I have entered the 2010 Marmotte (my first European sportive) and am looking forward to it! :)
What a stunning video and soundtrack! It makes my hair stand on end. I'm riding this as my first European sportive next July and I'm shaking aleady... ;-)
Very welldone on the video and your times guys, i did 9'20 on my first marmotte!! i had a bad 3inch tear in my rear tyre decending col du glandon (luckily no bang! ouch!) & two french riders guided me to a cycle shop giving me a FREE TYRE!! VIVA-LA-FRANCE!!!!!
Nive vid man! I was there also, I did it in 8h 04'. 27 minutes better than in 2008, my goal was to do it under the 8 hours, but the heatness on Alpe d'Huez was killing me!
Well done, great time. I had hoped to be a few minutes better, but like you, the heat on Alpe d'Huez turned it into survival on the climb. My goal for my eighth Marmotte next year is under the eight hours. I don't think I'll get near the 7:41 that I did in 2002, but under the eight hours would be good.
