Splashtop Linux demo at CES 2009

Splashtop is is a fast-boot operating system based on Linux, providing the user with extremely rapid boot time to a basic suite of applications including web browsing, instant messenger, Skype, media playback, photo management, and casual games. The Splashtop OS is pre-installed on a laptop system where a small piece of the software is embedded directly into the BIOS of the machine — the bit of code that runs immediately upon pressing the power button. After a short few seconds of boot time, Splashtop is available for running its applications or booting into the machine's full operating system. The OS is also billed as eco-friendly because its rapid startup time means there's less reason to leave your machine on all the time using power.
