Petition to Revoke Offer of Honorary Degree to Andrew H. Card, Jr. at http://www.petitiononline.com/no4card
On May 15, 2007, students, faculty and staff protested the decision by the University of Massachusetts to give an honorary degree to Andy Card, and former head of the Bush Administration's Iraq Study Group. Students held a rally outside the Whitmore administration building. When they went to enter the building, they found that the university had closed it. They then marched to the graduate school administration building and held a sitin. They marched across campus to the Whitmore building, and heard from a university spokesperson - standing outside - that the university had not changed its mind. Students then marched around the administration building, symbolically knocked on the locked doors, and held a rally, with students taking turns speaking out.
This is Part 1 of the video coverage, up to, but not including, the statement of the university spokesperson to the end rally. Due to storms, we had difficulty uploading this part. See Part 2 - already uploaded to YouTube - for the university statement and the rest of this protest. We will also upload a higher quality single video of the protest to Google.
Last Thursday more than 300 faculty, graduate and undergraduate students marched to Chancellor Lombardi's office and demanded that University of Massachusetts administrators revoke the offer of the honorary degree.
Students are planning followup protests.

The speaker I'm thinking of is in "part 2", but regardless, FULL PROPS to the high school students who showed up! "No war criminals at any education facilities!"; well said my friend, we need more like you! Thank you for having spoken at that protest, stick with the sentiment, I'm confident you will!

a-fucking-men man; i wonder how much we'd have had to pay up to get the decision reversed (nevermind the ridiculous pricetag for an education at this place...), since that's more than likely the one way they'd have -agreed- to reverse the decision!

All the protesting and hollering and drum beating they did against andrew card, yet they appeared on stage with him to get their degrees. Degrees that cost tens of thousands of dollars that went into the pockets of the administraters that they loathe so much.

I have new found faith in the youth of the nation. After the 80s generation, I had my worries. Well done students! You make my heart swell with gratitude for your courageous stand!

This cracks me up. These kids disagree with the principles with u mess yet still continue to go to the school, dumping their life savings (and possibly future earnings through loans) to continue to fund their (the administration) waste. Talk about irony.
