Elbert county Colorado commissioners approved an airpark within feet of several residences. Ironic given the statement of intent and commitments of the PUD " It is the intent of the Elbert County, Colorado, Board of County Commisioners to promote the zoning of the property by clarifying appropriate use and location restrictions to protect the adjoining landowners..." Quite different from the message you hear, left by one commissioner Hope Goetz. Apparently they can approve, but have no responsibility. The developer says, we are just adding homes to the terrain-Westword magazine. Should there have been a public hearing for HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of yards of dirt being brought in? Am I understanding correctly that the head planner at Elbert County, Grant Thayer and Developer representative Tom Maroney are in business together? See abe21.net. for more info.
Did I mention the safety record of 3 crashes/incidents in the last 18 months. Feel free to take a look for yourself. Take Delbert Rd. north to Buckboard(186) Turn right on Buckboard, right on Stagecoach Rd. and Right on Cheyenne, you will head straight into the end of the runway!
That runway has been there, and in use, since the 30's. If you don't like airplanes, then why did you buy a house that was in the flight path of a runway that was there long before your house was even built?

Unfortunately, Colorado politicians including the county commissioners, are controlled by the business and realestate interests. Combine that with many antiquated laws on the books, many dating back to the 1870s/80s (e.g., tollroad companies) and you've got a great recipe for suspect politics. Until the people are able to break the link between politicians and land "developers", the system is not going to change.
