  • I would say that the best Castlevania ever would be either the first one or the fourth. SoTN is great, but it should be obvious that it is not without it's flaws. The dialogue and voice acting is quite terrible, and it is something that deserves to be criticized. Otherwise it's a pretty awesome game, a bit too much of a change of pace from previous titles in my opinion though.

Symphony of the Night is indeed one of the best games, my only complaint is the lax difficulty. I like the voice acting actually because it makes me laugh.

  • @Obviously Yes but poor voice acting that is funny is still poor voice acting. I am judging based on artistic quality, nothing more. The writing is also quite terrible.

As far as the old school ones go I think I'm partial to Castlevania 3 or Bloodlines though Super Castlevania is also fantastic.

  • i'm sorrybut i'm instantly convinced that the only people saying that it's difficult are the people who have never played the classic games, now with that aside, great review man, this is my personal favorite Metroidvania games because it's sort of a mixture between the Metroidvanias and the classic side scroller Castlevanias and i love the concept of how the weapons and powers work

  • But I really depside the anime art style....I mean the art style regarding the hand drawn characters in OOE are amazing, easily the best imo...Taking on a more gothic and realistic approach opposed to the generic anime offerings of DOS and POR. Even SOTN, along with the GBA titles while gothic and far more interesting, still had this anime vibe goin on. But for some reaon I'll always love the art work for Castlevaia 1-4 regarding the Box art, classic stuff!

  • As far as difficulty goes, that's where the bosses come in....IF you don't puss out and end up using HP to restore your health as well as MP. That just basically makes you feel like you're cheating and destroys any sense of challenge and intensity.

That aside, i guess the challenge in Metroidvania games is knowing where to go next, or finy that little nook and cranny based on where to go, and using your new ability that you got from a boss. Anyhoo! I'm playing DOS, and I'm loving it but

  • some glyphs reqiare some kind of points how do you get those "points"

  • Hmm, I didn't hear about the release of this game...

    I want it! D:

  • Thanks, I really liked the song that plays when you first enter Dracula's Castle myself. A lot of people have been saying the music isn't as good as the last two games but I thought it was really atmospheric.
