I have a friend who was in this production and said that Seiffert never made it through even one of the performances without having to call for the understudy by the end. But, since he was under contract, he got to do this video, and in it sounds good because the taping was cut up into many different days. It's kind of sad, because no one outside of Bayreuth really knows that he did not have the stamina to make it to the end of the opera.
And, Seiffert is not the best Heldentenor right now!

Nice. I believe this has just beeen released on DVD, and I guess I'll have to pick it up.

Why did Seiffert move into the helden fach, he was such a marvellous lyric tenor! :-/ (his Stolzing is still great though)

I saw his Tannhäuser in Barcelona, and he was glorious!!! In Wagner now, he's the best!!!
