Harry is very crafty in mixing the ideas, phrasing and sound of three ballad masters Stan Getz, Ben Webster and Zoot Sims (who was himself influenced by Webster).
And he was very smart not to play any solo: it can get too long and destroy the structure.

harry allen looks like alfred hitchcock in this video. but he sounds, as always, tremendous. a true chameleon of tones. knows how to get all the sounds of past masters plus his own unique tone. interesting he uses a baritone reed on an old link that may be too wide for a modern tenor reed. what a huge sound
