Purpose:As i often shoot on location a highly protective laptop case is necessary. Which is how i came to purchase the Pelican 1490CC1. Also thanks to Chase Jarvis's video. I was able to customize it perfectly to fit my on location needs.

While Chase's video covered the items needed for customization and a few pointers here and there it wasn't as detailed as i wanted when it came to customizing the laptop tray. Therefore, i produced this video to give a more detailed look on what i discovered to work.

Tools needed
1.Box cutter knife
2.Dremel

First i will start with the Sandisk USB 2.0 card reader connection.
1.Drill hole laptop tray
1.hole should be big enough to fit the metal part of the usb connector
2.Rip a few threads to make room for the sandisk reader
3.Run the cable down the cell phone holder to under the tray and then threw the hole
Second i will go over cutting the side tray to expose the usb and firewire slots
1.Place closed laptop in tray and measure to the end of the firewire port
2.Open the lid of the laptop in tray and measure the end of the usb port
3.Use a box cutter and cut away
Third i will be going over where to drill the holes to run the hard drive cords through
1.First is drill a hole through the center column.
2.run the cables through from the far right section column to the center column.

  • The hard Drives i used doesn't allow for piggy backing so i would have to switch to whichever i need at the moment.

  • great video and idea du! Very cool..

  • whats your setup with the two external harddrives? My MacBook Pro has only one USB port on the right side. Do you switch to whichever external you happened to need that moment or is there another trick?
